Choosing Your Child’s Dentist is like Choosing their Pediatrician

Dr. Gilfillan loves to put children at ease no matter what age they are or past dental experience they have had. Although children typically don’t get their first tooth until about six months of age, we feel a first visit should start as young as a few months old, for a well-baby visit. We believe that by teaching parents right away how to prevent dental decay, the family will be off to the best start. We will look for lip-and-tongue ties and discuss diet, nursing, and bottle feeding. We will discuss how to avoid pacifiers and thumb-sucking to prevent malocclusion.

We are Proud to take Care of your Kids

Children usually begin their six-month cleaning cycle around age 3. We use the most advanced treatments and give them with thoughtfulness and care. We encourage parents to be a part of their daily hygiene so they develop good habits. At each visit, each child gets to choose their favorite flavor of paste and fluoride, pick out their favorite tooth brush and get a prize from the “Treasure Box.”

We strive to make sure that all generations of children grow up without anxiety over visits to the dental office. Our office is always a happy place to visit that relieves any fears children may have. We will always help you, no matter if you have an active eight-year old or a frightened three-year old.

Easy Does it Prevention

Dental sealants are a quick and easy way to prevent decay in the deep grooves of the teeth. The teeth are thoroughly cleaned first, then a clear coat of sealant is applied. A curing light is used to bond the sealant to the tooth. The entire procedure takes only minutes, and is one of the best preventions against cavities for both children and adolescents.
